But, uh it costs too much to be a vegan!

I have no idea if I will get this blog out tomorrow as this is Sunday and I have a ton to do, but also, I wanted to see, really look at a week of vegan/vegetarian meals compared to a carnivore. My reason for this is because its more a statement than a question, but people have said to me “Oh, eating this way is SO much more expensive” well I argue it cannot be, but I also don’t 100% know but I love to be right, so I wanted to make a comparative blog.

This week my meal plan looks like this:

As you can see, I am the most boring person on the planet lol, I basically just eat the same recipe until I hate it and than have to find something else. Also, I didn’t feel like cooking for 7 hours today (Meal Prep Sunday!)

I took a poll, asked questions to see what carnivores generally ate, I forgot what I use to cook prior to becoming vegetarian not just that I didn’t really cook much and was never a huge meat fan anyway.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Breakfast Eggs & Toast Shake Granola & yogurt Bagel & Cream cheese Eggs and bacon
Lunch Turkey Sandwich Soup and sandwich Soup and sandwich Meat sandwich Meat salad
Dinner Chicken with salad Meatloaf potatoes and vegetables Leftovers Chicken and rice and veg Spaghetti & meatballs

I took an average of answers to what carnivores ate, I don’t include steak and roasts as I’d say it’s not a regular thing for the average person. I also forgot to include snacks, but we’ll just say its near the same as mine.

My Protein                                              vs.             Carnivore’s protein

Firm tofu $1.50 Eggs $3.49
Protein powder I’ll say the same price As whey or whatever used
Extra firm tofu used for cakes

$5 for 2 packs (Double recipe)

Bacon: $3.99
Simulated beef $2.99 Turkey lunch meat: $5
Pre-made vegan burgers $5.29 Tuna: $1.49
Chicken breasts 5 pack: $10
Ground beef x2: $6
Total: $14.80 Total: $30.00

The sides and vegetables I don’t see there is a huge difference, my sides are really no different than your sides, same as vegetables if you are eating a balanced diet.

For my week of meal prep and the 3 different dinners, it costs me about $40

So, each day costs me, $8 to eat as a vegan/vegetarian (I’m not 100% dairy free yet)

The chart above for carnivores for all week is about $70, each day costing in the range of $13-15.

So now I know what I can say when people try to use their “Knowledge” against me, I do see how people could convey that vegetarian is so much more expensive, I do buy pre-made vegan burgers for the end of the week, if I wasn’t lazy and actually made black bean burgers in advance then it would cost me $3, opposed to the $5 and change. When buying premade it will always cost more just like take-out.
